Session 52: Local Flex Time

Purpose

Many regions ask for dedicated time to talk about local issues. This hour is for that purpose. Ideas for what to use this time for can be found below. If you don't need the local flex time teachers can continue to use this time for planning.

Objectives

  • Local: Teachers, facilitators and regional partners have had a chance to talk about a topic that is specific to their region and impacts the computer science teachers in their cohort
  • Planning: Teachers have a chance to dig deeper into their plans for the fall.

Option 1: Discuss Local Topics

Many regions have asked for time to talk about things that are specific to their region during the 5 day experience. Things that this time could be used for include:

  • Bringing in a guest speaker
  • Talking about the local computer science standards which impact teachers
  • Talking about the teacher certification process in your area
  • Sharing about local programs teachers can get involved with

Option 2: Planning Time

If there is not a specific local topic you need to address during this time your teachers will always appreciate having more structure planning time. Things to consider during this time:

  • Have teachers continue to work on the plans they were creating in the last session and sharing them with each other
  • Have teachers share resources they plan to use for the course
  • Have teachers investigate the forum and the supports it provides
