Purpose

In the previous model lesson, participants were exposed to lesson plans. This session is an opportunity for participants to have time to further explore lesson plans and lessons in Code Studio. Participants should leave the session with a basic understanding of how to navigate these resources on the Code.org site. This navigation will be practiced throughout the week.

  • Participants understand the basic structure and makeup of CSD lesson plans
  • Participants are able to navigate to Code Studio lessons from lesson plans

Now that we have experienced and discussed one lesson plan, we are going to take some time to explore multiple lesson plans. This is also a time for us to get more familiar with the Code.org website.

Facilitator Tip

An important outcome of this workshop is that participants know how to navigate the Code.org website. Throughout the week, avoid using direct links and instead continually model how to navigate to certain areas of the website. Have participants follow along on their own device whenever possible.

(5 minutes) Navigating to Lesson Plans

Remarks

Now that we have experienced and discussed one lesson plan, we are going to take some time to explore multiple lesson plans. This is also a time for us to get more familiar with the Code.org website.

The facilitator uses slides to help participants navigate to the lesson plan section of the Code.org website.

(10 minutes) Explore

Have participants work in pairs to explore multiple lesson plans. As they explore, they should reflect on the following:

  • What is the same in each lesson plan?
  • What is different?
  • How will these similarities and differences impact your classroom routines?

Code Studio Exploration (10 Minutes)

(4 minutes) Navigating to Code Studio

Model navigating to Code Studio directly from the lesson plan. Have participants follow along as you give a tour of Code Studio. There will be time throughout the week to dig deeper into Code Studio, the goal here is that participants know how to navigate to Code Studio from the lesson plan and know how to navigate through the site once they are there. This is also a good time to make sure all participants are in the cohorts section for the model and TLO lessons.
