Purpose

Bring participants together in synchronous learning to continue to build on the workshop theme, “Role of the Teacher”.

Objectives

  • Participants are aware of the theme for the day.
  • Participants are thinking about how things are going and what they want to work on/get help with.

Facilitator Tip

As participants join, encourage them to share their video, and update their display names so at least their first names are displayed.

As participants join the call, welcome them to the workshop and have them do the following:

  • Take attendance with the link provided for the workshop
  • Add information to the Welcome Slides to identify what they are looking for and gauge the mood in the meeting.

Be sure to check attendance from the workshop dashboard.

Producer Instructions: If possible, quickly test participants audio/video. Frequently enter links to take attendance and access the slides in the chat.

  • Review how to support a positive learning virtual experience both with technology and engagement norms.
  • Review suggested roles that participants can self-select when they are in the breakout rooms.

Prompt: What successes and challenges (if any) have you experienced as you continue teaching CS Discoveries?

  • Discuss and record thoughts in breakout session slides.

Producer Instructions: Prepare breakout rooms with three to four participants in each room.

Transition:

  • Quick reminder of suggested roles for participants to self-select when they are in breakout rooms.
  • refer to designated slides for participants to type on.

Send participants to breakout rooms.

Circulate:

  • Circulate the breakout rooms.
  • View the progress made on designated slides.
  • Identify common or key ideas to bring to the whole group discussion.

(5 minutes) Whole Group Discussion

Prompt: What successes have you experienced related to developing a culture of inclusion in your classroom?

Facilitator choice of strategy for whole group share out.

  • Examples for whole group share out:
    • Call groups by breakout room number
      • Start with #1 and count up
      • Start with the last breakout room number and count down
  • Popcorn share out
    • Groups self-select when to “pop” out and share
