Purpose

This session is designed to highlight choices and teaching strategies used in the model lesson. The goal is for participants to reflect on how they might implement similar strategies and techniques in their own classrooms and practice.

Producer Instructions: Prepare breakout rooms with three to four participants in each room.

Remarks

Our goal in this model lesson was to demonstrate key pedagogical choices made in a lesson that help incorporate formative assessment, referencing resources, and providing classroom feedback. In a few moments you will go to a breakout room to discuss the lesson with a small group.

Prompt: What are examples of times in the model lesson when you noticed the teacher

  • Formatively assess student understanding?
  • Further develop the practice of referencing resources?
  • Provide class feedback?
  • What ideas do you have for incorporating these things into your own teaching practice?

Send participants to breakout rooms of three to four participants to discuss the prompts. Groups should add notes to the shared slide deck. Facilitators should visit breakout rooms and monitor the slide deck.

Producer Instructions: Send participants to breakout rooms of three to four participants for nine minutes. Give a one minute warning before bringing the group back together.

(5 minutes) Share Out

The facilitator selects a share out method of choice. When selecting, think about your timing. If you are running behind, select a quick share out method. If you have extra time, select an option that might take more time but lead to more fruitful conversation.
