CS Discoveries 2021 - 22 Virtual Workshop 3: Modules 5 & 6

Goals and Objectives

The content in virtual Modules 5 and 6 correspond to the content covered in the third in-person Academic Year Workshop. Throughout both modules participants will be exploring Unit 5 content and discussing equitable instructional practices through the lens of the role of the teacher. This may also be a valuable resource to you as you consider any adjustments you decide to make to the agenda based on your local needs.

Connection Between Asynchronous Work and Synchronous Workshops

Module 5	Module 6
Participants will engage in a set of asynchronous work that includes: Preview Unit 5, Chapter 1 content Become familiar with the Problem Solving Process for Data Become familiar with the Pixelation Widget in Code Studio Reflect on how to improve access and diversity in CS at your school	Participants will engage in a set of asynchronous work that includes: Review key vocabulary in Unit 5 Identify resources to reference with students during lessons Apply the Problem Solving Process for Data Identify resources within lesson plans and strategies that support differentiation Consider how "Learning in Context" can help motivate students
Facilitators should engage with the asynchronous work by: Reading the participant reflections within Code Studio to identify misconceptions or key points that should be addressed in the synchronous workshop (Levels 2, 13, 14) Reviewing the participant questions in the shared slide deck. Answer questions that have an easy answer directly in the table and identify questions that will be addressed in the synchronous workshop. Reviewing the answers to the group reflection questions in the shared slide deck to identify misconceptions and key points to highlight in the synchronous workshop. Over the course of Modules 5 and 6 you will be developing a narrative around both content and equity as participants reflect on the role they play as the teacher in both of these areas.
