Welcome and Housekeeping (7 minutes)
Producer Tip
As people join, welcome them. If possible, test their audio/video quickly just by having them say “hi.” Enter links to attendance and the day’s slides in the chat frequently as people join so they can complete the activity.
(0 minutes) Housekeeping
Have everyone complete the attendance for the module.
- There will be a specific link for the module at your workshop.
- Check that everyone is marked as present in the online workshop dashboard.
(2 minutes) Review agenda for the day
- Review norms from day one
- The theme for today is “Pulling It All Together”
- Agenda
- Today is going to be focused on taking all of this information and making a plan for this year around pacing, assessment, and supporting an equitable CS classroom.
Facilitator Tip
- Prepare for Gots and Needs ahead of time by using color highlighting to identify patterns, including common tech issues, that you want to point out to participants.
- When reviewing the Gots and Needs, consider when you will cover the questions naturally (given the agenda for the workshop).
- If possible/needed, make one change based on the feedback and explain that to participants. We want them to know that we do act on feedback. One way to show them that is to act on one piece of feedback on the first day.
(5 minutes) Gots and Needs
Describe how you, the facilitator use gots and needs and survey results.
Share themes from gots, needs, and survey with participants.
Address any gots and needs you can cover quickly.
Engagement Activity (3 minutes)
Teaching Tip
This is an example of an engagement activity you can do. You are free to choose a different one if you see fit
(3 minutes) Draw Your Feelings
Take a quick temperature of the “room” with a doodling activity.
- Explain that you want to do a quick check-in as you prepare to kick off this final module.
- Describe how the Draw Your Feelings activity will work (below).
- Have participants do a quick doodle with a specific focus (suggestions follow) on a blank piece of paper.
- Give participants 1 minute to doodle.
- Have them all reveal their doodle at the same time.
- Scan the screen for drawings that jump out at you.
- Ask a few participants to elaborate/give you the why behind their drawing.
Use your perception of where workshop participants are at this stage of the workshop to decide what the focus of the doodle will be. The following are examples to give you ideas:
- Level of motivation at the end of the workshop
- Confidence level with CS Discoveries
- Readiness to teach CS Discoveries in the fall
